It is very important to ask the right questions of anyone you plan to hire. Make sure you have a written contract for your vendors. Most professionals in the wedding business have contracts from the DJ to the venue and of course your photographer.
Other important questions are:
* How long have you been photographing weddings?
* Do you offer online ordering for family and friends?
* How long does that gallery stay online?
* What type or style of photography do you specialize in?
* Will you take formal portraits of my bridal party and family?
* What kind of equipment do you use?
* Will you book another wedding for my day?
* How far in advance do we need to make a deposit and hire you?
* Will we receive a CD with High resolution images or thumbnail images?
* What is your cancellation policy?
* Do you work alone or have an assistant or second shooter?
* Will you drink alcohol at my event?
* Do you have insurance?
* Do you have an office or studio so we can see your work?
* Do you have references from past clients?
* Are you a member of the WPJA ? (
http://www.wpja.com/ The Wedding Photojournalist Association is a professional organization composed of photojournalists and wedding Photographers.)
Any Professional Photographer will be happy to answer your questions like the ones above. Try and steer clear of "Weekend Wedding Photographers" by that I mean people that moonlight as wedding photographers. You want a Pro that does this full time and has an office or studio.
With careful planning you will have a happy day and beautiful images to remember that day.
